Sherwood Schwartz's original 1970s television series "The Brady Bunch" was essentially mindless drivel, but kitschy enough to live on with a huge fan base since its genesis.
Like "Gilligan's Island," Schwartz's other hugely popular hit, "Bunch" inspired lots of pervy conversation among teen boys about which one of the Brady chicks they'd like to plook … or which mother/daughter combo would be best. There were a hell of a lot of Bradys, so the permutations were endless; these conversations could drag on forever.
Producers Scott David and Jeff Mullen seem to have realized the potential in a sex-Bradys remake and have delivered "Not the Bradys XXX."
Like the original sitcom, the plot's pretty light, but we're not talking heavy drama here on the order of Jan Brady actress Eve Plumb's made-for-television movie, Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway.
Besides, you don't watch these one-joke movies for the story or the acting, although care went into the sets (dig that AstroTurf backyard!), costumes and soundtrack.
The real selling point, as in all movies of the adult genre, is the hardcore sex. A fine job was done by all. Especially Hillary Scott as Marcia (Not) Brady and Leah Luv as Cindy (Not) Brady.
Lynn LeMay is also entertaining as Alice the Maid … although she lacks the bull-dyke edginess of original cast member Anne B. Davis. And that might be a good thing.
The men in the cast are all fine, too. It's nice to see Tee Reel cast in a supporting role because, as any fan of the original sitcom can attest, there weren't many Negroes (the term at the time) in BradyLand. Like his name suggests, the brother keeps it real.
In all, a fine, fine effort.
