HOLLYWOOD — After weeks of speculation and art revisions, the DVD box cover for the "Cosby Show" porn spoof Not the Cosby Show XXX was unveiled in front of shocked onlookers outside the X-Play and Sitcum.com offices at Hollywood & Vine.
“Well I never,” was one disgruntled fan’s reaction as she hurriedly pushed her husband away in a wheel chair towards the Pantages Theater, narrowly avoiding being hit by a speeding bus.
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” shrieked a FedEx driver who upon a closer second look, burst into laughter. “That is amazing. It looks just like them.”
The final box design is simple, elegant and to the point, showcasing Cliff and his beautiful wife Claire surrounded by the entire family, including Theo, Sondra, Denise and Rudy.
One passerby took a double take at the box and said, “Oh my God, that’s incredible. Did they really make a Huxtable porno?”
A beautiful black woman named Beverly reacted strongly and said, “That’s disgusting. I can’t believe the Huxtables have been turned into a porno.”
Her boyfriend adamantly agreed with her but when she turned her back he quietly asked, “Where can I get a copy?”
A YouTube video showing the incredible wide range of public fan reaction will be offered when the official Not the Cosby Show XXX website debuts in a couple of weeks.
“I’ve never experienced such strong reaction to any movie we have made, and that includes the first Not the Bradys XXX," stated Jeff Mullen of X-Play. “Today some people loved it and some absolutely hated the thought of it, and just looking into their eyes the first time they took a glimpse of the box was an incredible, eye-opening experience for all of us.”
A video crew from X-Play and Hustler will continue taping more audience reaction throughout Los Angeles when they visit various parts of the city over the next couple of weeks.
“We’re going to see what America has to say, including the various sections of LA including some areas in the hood as we visit some culturally segregated places such as the Staples Center, the Fairfax Farmer’s Market, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, South Central and also the Compton Swap Meet, where I’m sure we will get some very interesting responses,” Mullen said.
“Don’t even think of asking me to go to Compton with you holding up a big box cover,” cautioned Bobby, who works in the X-Play office. Bobby, who happens to be black, is also known as Big Richard Black in movie credits and shoots a lot of behind the scenes video for the company. “I’m not gonna go to Compton and hold up the box cover.”
With early doses of white and black reaction including some outrageous ones already being posted on various black entertainment websites, Bobby is not exactly sure what to expect.
“This is really going to touch a nerve I think,” he said. “It’s one thing to spoof the Brady Bunch but when you tackle an iconic black show like this and then pack it with interracial sex and wild orgies, I don’t know. This could become a major news story.”
