HOLLYWOOD—The man whose name has long been synonymous in adult with parodies and comedies follows in the footsteps of Get Out writer/director Jordan Peele by shifting gears into the thriller genre with near-completed paranormal outing Shunned for Adam & Eve Pictures.
Will Ryder, who created the pivotal Not the Bradys XXX and 2016 AVN Best Comedy Love, Sex & TV News, currently has one day of shooting to go on Shunned, which he says he chose as his next project because "I wanted to make a scary-as-hell movie."
"Will Ryder is really spreading his creative wings and going in directions I never imagined he'd chase," X-Play partner and co-producer Scott David said. "There is so much creativity pouring out of him right now, I wish I could tell you everything he's up to but I'll wait until he's ready."
Ryder allowed Adam & Eve executives to see only a 10-second clip of what he's shot so far, and the reaction he received was one of astonishment. "Frankly I'm speechless," A&E creative director Rachel V said. "This clip is unlike anything we've ever released and I can barely talk right now."
The movie marks a reunion for Ryder with 2016 AVN Female Performer of the Year Riley Reid, who he last directed in 2013's Grease XXX: A Parody, also for Adam & Eve.
"Riley is a dream come true in every way," Ryder said. "She's a very talented actress, she doesn't bitch and moan, she's very helpful with acting suggestions and willing to spend endless hours on the set. I've loved her since the moment I met her six or seven years ago."
The female cast lineup for Shunned also includes 2017 AVN Best New Starlet Holly Hendrix, Misty Stone, Sarah Vandella, Kat Dior, Chloe Scott, Nia Nacci, Victoria June, Ziggy Star, Lucky Starr and Veronica Valentine.
"We have a lovely cast, but are still searching for one more female to add to the final day of shooting," David noted.
The production also called on Dick Chibbles and Jack Vegas to coordinate a number of complex stunts.
"The amount of strategic planning and physical exertion required to complete these stunts both by the cast and crew was incredible," David continued, adding that manufacturer 1AM Doll USA supplied some real-life likenesses that were used for some of the aerial stunts. "1AM Doll USA was tremendous in helping us bring the physical stunts to fruition. They have a great product and I don't think we could have finished this movie without them."
He concluded, "We also want to say Adam & Eve is a fantastic company to work for and I thank them for allowing us to create great movies no matter the genre."
As Shunned comes to a wrap, Ryder is also promoting his newly released comedy Bad Babes Inc. from Adam & Eve. See the official trailer here.
