Soon after completing school, native Montrealer Paul Sidhu decided it was time to get a job! But like all industries, graphic design was over saturated.
After working in Toronto as in intern in an internet company, he decided to move back to Montreal for a job offer. But what he didn't know was that this was his first step in the adult world!
"I never saw myself even thinking of being a part of the industry with my upbringing and culture. Porn was something that was looked down upon" But a job was a job and what mattered was getting the experience as a graphic designer.
Working with Kaytel, one of Canada's top distributers in Canada, was a learning experience. After a few years in the company, he was approached to do artwork for the dvd covers that was being sold for the company. After a few trial and errors, Paul managed to learn the "craft" of porn. He knew immediately what the audience wanted to see! " I always had a hunch on what grabbed the attention of the viewers. The harder or unusal the picture was, that was what i focused my covers on. I knew that the covers had to be strong enough to compete with top sellers from other companies."
During the 8 year stint at Kaytel, Paul decided it was time to start working outside of the Adult Industry. And music was his passion. After making a few connections with producers, singers, DJs and record companies in NYC and Miami, he was quick to get offers in creating original artwork for cds, promos and flyers for some of the biggest clubs and artists.
"I think thats when I started to incorporate the "electro club" look to the porn jackets and took my work to a whole new level!"
After parting ways with Kaytel from his 9 years in the company as Sr. designer, he decided it was time to start his own studio and market his creative look to other porn companies across Canada and the US.
"I still do work for Kaytel, but I have also managed to launch myself and getting contract work from production companies like Ricky Raunch, Dirty Dawg (both in Toronto) and Black Rayne Productions which is based in Atlanta."
My aim is to reach out to different companies and help them create a look for their company at a competitive price. In this kind of economy, its hard for companies to invest in their dvd jacket artwork. But companies also have to understand that there are so many dvds to compete with that a cover DOES speak a thousand words which always help sales. So I'm hoping I can help as many people as I possibly can at prices my clients can be happy with!"
