Director Brad Armstrong chose wisely by casting Kristen Scott in the lead role of Camgirl. Of course, AVN’s 2018 Best Supporting Actress is comfortable with dramatic fodder—but she also is well suited to play Kelly, a young single mom who’s working her way through college on live cam show tips. The career she’s chosen has its ups and downs. Big upside: doing a playful girl/girl show with eager classmate Tina, who wants to get into the business. (This scene, with AVN Female Performer of the Year Angela White, will be a turn-on for fans of Sapphic sex.) Big downside: getting slut-shamed by boyfriend-turned-stalker Dillon (Lucas Frost) when his buddies find a pirated video of her show online.
Armstrong’s dark drama focuses more on the downs than the ups. Kelly’s friends lend support as best they can when Dillon starts sabotaging her life. Kelly’s landlady, Margie (Veronica Hart in a non-sex role), chases Dillon off the property, while fellow camgirl Roxy (Honey Gold) and her tough-guy pals—Ryan McLane and Small Hands—confront him on his own home turf. “I never liked that sneaky fuck anyways,” Roxy tells Kelly. The action scenes and the sex keep the adrenaline flowing, but it’s the smaller moments that are the most finely observed, including a cameo by Kyle Stone as a physician who treats Kelly’s sprained arm—and reveals his identity as “dirtydoc77”—and Armstrong himself as Kelly’s heartbroken father.
