This melancholy meditation starts with Ava Vincent confronting a guy sizing her up in a laundry room, then going back to her apartment and seeing something on the TV that turns her life around, making her want to do "good things." (We later find out that it was the September 11 terrorist attacks, in a thrown-away line of dialogue.) She tries to make the lives of those around her better, but it doesn't work, and before long - especially after one of her friends commits suicide - she's back to confronting another guy in the laundry room.

There are five sex scenes but very little joy in this grim exercise. As usual with Stanley, a dramatic exercise worth watching, but this is not the kind of vid that strokers are looking for.
