Reviews

After debuting on NakedSword.com last fall, Jet Set's ambitious gay series makes its DVD debut in this three-disc set containing the first three episodes: "Who Is Lucky Hanson?", "Working Hard for the Money," and "Relationships of Mass Destruction." Mysterious visitor Lucky Hanson arrives in West Hollywood at Wet Palms, a gay "Melrose Place" that is home to couple Peter Dune (Jason Ridge) and Tucker Bang (Brad Benton). The plotlines revolve around Jett Setter magazine, published by Simon Jett (Michael Soldier) and Bubble Underwear, owned by Chase Walker (Rob Romoni). Lucky has a secret, and bears a striking resemblance to a former resident of Wet Palms. The first episode (at 35 minutes) and the following installments (39 minutes each) play like a soap opera, and this series is strongest in script and acting. Whether it's pool man Cody Cash explaining that he's an "aquatic maintenance engineer" or the witty exchange between Lucky and Peter when they first meet, Wet Palms provides plenty of zingers delivered by a cast that knows how to deliver dialogue. Jet Set scored a major coup in casting newcomer Gabriel Knight, a modern day James Dean who shows no nerves in front of the camera. A true natural and a real heartthrob, Knight is sure to have a long career if he wants one. Wet Palms is rare in its ability to get the viewer interested in the plot and characters. Given the running times of each episode, the sex can seem a little rushed, and more close-ups are needed. But the overall impact is still impressive, and Wet Palms is an original effort in gay porn. Knight has only a short solo scene, while five other pairings complete the three episodes. But the most amusing moment comes from the encounter Brad Benton has with a mysterious office wanker.
