A silly, flashy, trashy delight. Dickens would probably be thrilled to have the homosexual and sado-masochistic undertones of his sentimental masterwork brought right to the top - or way over the top, as it turns out. Writer/director Pan jams in sociological satire (The Kathie Lee Gifford Workhouse for Orphans in Dumpwater, Florida) along with silly drag-queeny trash-talk and smart-ass show-biz wisecracks. Beautiful blond Samuels asks for "more" in the time-honored tradition, and, of course, he gets spanked naked, then fucked mouth and south by the orphanage-keeper. But the orphanage-keeper is gorgeous Star, and who could call that oppression? It's like that all the way. Nothing is quite taken seriously, even the copious sex, which is sort of a relief. Sex is ridiculous, after all. Oliver and the other lost boys, street-hustling for their loving pimp, Fagin, are almost forced to do unprotected sex movies for evil producer Bill Sikes. Standouts are impish Christian as The Artful Dodger (his leather-sex with a clergyman is a hoot) and dreamy Riley Burke as the vice-cop for whom Oliver gives his heart (or at least discounts it). Stylishly videographed in near-cartoon colors.
RETAILING: Hilarious comedy and hot twink-sex. Recommend it to the sophisticated.
