OpenAI Delays ChatGPT 'Adult Mode' Once More

SAN FRANCISCO—OpenAI, the multi-billion-dollar artificial intelligence giant, confirmed that it is delaying, again, the rollout of "adult mode" features for its popular ChatGPT platform, according to the Sources newsletter and other news outlets.

It isn't clear at this point how long that delay will be. Sources reported that OpenAI confirmed the delay for adult mode last week, noting that the team behind ChatGPT is more focused on personalizing the platform. The adult mode was delayed back in December amid efforts to counter teen suicides tied to the platform.

As AVN reported, the company targeted early 2026 for the release of adult mode. That appears to no longer be the case. A spokesperson for OpenAI told Axios on Friday, "We still believe in the principle of treating adults like adults, but getting the experience right will take more time."
