The maiden release from classic studio VCX's new Compulsion Films label, Craig'slist Compulsion seems very much to be the effective handiwork of JacktheZipper, despite what the billing would have us believe.
JTZ is credited only with shooting Craig'slist, but everything about it — the settings, the tone, the music, the editing style — just drips with Zipperishness (for lack of a better term).
Set in Las Vegas, Craig'slist presents a series of confessional-style vignettes in which each cast member offers tawdry reflections on her past and present as a pussy for hire. While a couple of the girls here, it stands to reason, may actually be working Vegas escorts legitimately attainable through the website of the title, the movie's headliners, at least, are well-established adult performers merely playing the part ... or are they?
Roxy DeVille, for one, delivers her "confession" with icy convincingness. Of course, she's more than proven her thespian chops in the past year, but if Ms. D hasn't really hooked at some point in her life, she seriously ought to be following Sasha Grey's footsteps over the hill into the glow of Hollywood klieg lights.
It's Nikki Rhodes, however, who makes for the true star of Craig'slist, appearing in its opening and closing scenes and tearing apart both. In the first (again, the mark of the Zipper all but leaping right off it), she's a girl literally kept in a box, removed by Alec Knight to sate his sexual whim. Her second scene takes place on a balcony, another b/g that sends the picture out with a nuclear blast. While she may not exhibit quite the same veracity in her line readings as DeVille, Rhodes is a little redheaded powder keg poised for a major breakout.
There are some good extras on the Craig'slist Compulsion DVD, including a bonus scene in a limo with DeVille, and some awesome classic trailers from the VCX library.
Kudos to VCX for rekindling its production side with something that both taps into the current zeitgeist successfully and maintains the level of quality for which the company has always been known. Craig'slist Compulsion is a movie we expect will hold up for a very long time to come.
