Very few porn directors are as adept at screwing up the classics as Luca Damiano (Macbeth). As seen through his myopic eyes, high-falutin' "literature" should not be creatively adapted to a new medium when it can merely be exploited for its public domain name value. Unlike, say, Mozart - who knew a thing or two about adaptations; i.e Don Giovanni - Damiano instead chose to jettison virtually any element of social commentary. His meatheaded version of Don Juan retains only the most obvious element; i.e. Giovanni as sexual libertine.
Unlike the original, where Don Juan is dragged to Hell by a living statue, this Don Juan suffers from that old chestnut, "it was only a dream." Worse still, even that stupid cliché isn't presented convincingly. We'd be stunned to discover that Don Juan's "script" contained more than three pages of dumbass segue material. In a nutshell, Phillipe Dean gets laid a lot - while uncomfortably squirming around in his period costume. Banging the wives of his friends and enemies alike, an angry suitor is always on his heels directly after the pop shot is fired.
If the sex had been more passionate perhaps our tone would be less harsh. Unfortunately, each scene contains textbook, assembly-line sex. Explicit orgies and d.p. action notwithstanding, we found the exquisite locations and lighting schemes to be far more interesting than the human factor. (In fact, the only reason Don Juan rates the extra 1/2 A is because of nomination-worthy technical specs.)
