Playboy presents a fascinating and titillating look at sex since the motion-picture camera was invented. Virtually every screen idol whose films pushed the envelope of sexuality is showcased in this documentary production.
Beginning with the early black and white movies, this video shows how attitudes toward sex in the cinema have been changed by WWII, the censorious Catholic CDC and the motion picture industry's own rating code. In a series of interviews with Hugh Hefner and several important film directors, authors and film critics, the path leads inexorably to the demands of the public for more explicit sex in their entertainment.
Wonderful scenes from a vast number of movies are included, and many of them are as hot today as they were when they were produced. The commentary and interviews illuminate the external factors influencing the direction films were to take, including the arrival of AIDS, gay and lesbian sex, the threat from right-wing conservatives and the ability of consumers to take their entertainment to the privacy of their homes with video.
