Picture this scenario: famous mystery writer by day, jewel thief by night. Does this ring a bell? Of course it does. But let us not think that this seemingly overused plot exists only in the realm of mainstream films. It shows up, time and time again, in every possible medium, including XXX films. Handful of Diamonds is a fine, witty example of an old adage, "You can teach an old plot new tricks."
And new trick abound. The characters are all young, wealthy, bored, beautiful, and very horny. To their rescue comes the infamous Masked Bandit who is robbing London's wealthy set. He is Grant Hendy (Nigel Evans), author, bachelor, lover, and jewel thief. At first Scotland Yard thinks the robberies are the work of a group: the descriptions of the burglar range from 45, one-armed and short to a 200-pound Russian-speaking ogre. But Inspector Smith and insurance investigator Judy Marvin join forces (and other parts) to get their man.
Handful of Diamonds is one of the more enjoyable XXX films I've seen in a while. The very good-looking Nigel Evans truly seems to enjoy his work – getting inside all of those "jewelry boxes." His scene with Elizabeth Aubrey, in which the roles are reverse (she the aggressor), is different and very exciting. All of the sex scenes, while not terribly creative, are very energetic and hot. Cecil Howard knew what he was getting when he imported this British movie. Handful Of Diamonds is some hot handful.
