This comedy was a big-budget event in its day (1985), and it's still enjoyable. A mild spoof of American sports mania, it shows what might happen if cock sucking were a national sport, with "suck-offs" held for paying crowds.
Cyndee Summers, a voluptuous redhead whose porn career began in the '70s, plays national defending champ Silk Throat. Gina (billed as Jenna) Carrera, a newcomer at the time, plays Tammy the Tongue, the challenger.
The "Super Bowl of Suck-Offs" takes place in a boxing ring with lots of spectators. Given the subject matter there's naturally a heavy emphasis on oral sex. Big-boob icon Kitten Natividad does girl-girl with Carrera.
The male cast includes such A-list actors as John Leslie, Herschel Savage, an almost skinny Ron Jeremy, as well as newcomer Peter North.
Rocky gone hardcore? Impossible, you say? Well, Stiff Competition is a delightful and accurate spoof of that fighting fable, as well as all those other blood-and-guts boxing films which often frequent the television screen during the week hours of the night. It starts out rocking and socking and ends by knocking the viewer into a state of carnal bliss.
The action in Stiff Competition focuses on the "World Championship Suck-Off Competition," and we're not talking about a lollipop licking contest. The event offers a winner-take-all purse of $50,000 and for that much sweet bread, you better believe that a lot of girls are in serious tongue graining.
The plot, an absolutely knockout, works on several levels. The dialogue is witty, the acting credible and the sex raunchy. Gina Carrera, who stars as Tammy the Tongue, has star quality written all over her – and on a body like her, you want to make sure to read the fine print.
Tammy is transformed from impetuous ingénue into The Mouth That Soared by her manager-lover Kevin James. Her training methods would leave Rocky Balboa quaking in his trunks. When she's put through her laps, her feet never leave the ground.
The former champ, Cyndee Summers, and her manager Jake the Snake (John Leslie) are determined to make a successful comeback. Then there's Bridgette Monet's character and manager Dave Cannon. She pumps his iron on her training bench, flexing her lingual muscles. All of these colorful characters set the stage for the rousing, riotously funny finale. Four sexy competitors, out for blood, tongue it out for all the marbles.
Stiff Competition pulls no punches. It's always on target, with sharp jabs and hard hooks below the belt. From its whirling montage of newspaper headlines proclaiming a new tongue terror to Paul Thomas' hilarious characterization of Howard Cosell to Ron Jeremy's Don King (with hair frizzled so high that we'd bet he put more than his hand in an electrical socker), Stiff Competition always hits the mark. While the sexual content focuses mostly on oral antics, there are two anal scenes that will pup the starch back into your shorts. This film is a knockout – a winner whether you want to get happy or horny.
