The high-glossy packaging of The Heartbreak Girl – with star Heather Wayne lying seductively on a satin, heart-shaped pillow – leads the viewer to believe the nominee for Best New Starlet of the Year is the video's namesake. But once the video gets rolling, it's clear that Gina Valentino is the real heartbreaker, and Wayne her second, who picks up the pieces off the bedroom floor.

Gina secluded Heather's boyfriend (Rick Savage) and sends Heather off to console and seduce Gina's boyfriend (Herschel Savage) who is broken-hearted over the betrayal. Both starlets perform exciting sex scenes throughout the film, but Gina seems to exude that little something extra. This is not to say that Heather's performance is sub par, but Gina should share top billing with Heather on this tape.

After a somewhat choppy beginning, writer/director John Shubert's camera work improves dramatically. Innovative split screens, subtle fade-ins and the increasingly popular slow motion sequences combine to maintain the video's sexual continuity, thus allowing for greater viewer stimulation.

Shubert also gets the most out of newcomers R. Savage and Shaun Mitchell, who do not take a back seat to the video's more established players.

The only thing keeping this video from receiving the highest honor is the substantial lack of plot. Shubert makes no attempt to tell the viewer where the players are coming from, or where all this is going. This is annoying evident in the finale – a six-person "orgy" which comes off more like three pairings – when everyone miraculously appears in the same bed with no foreshadowing of how they got there.

The players evidently had a good time making this film (there was a lot of laughing and carrying on) and the sex is hot and exciting. A decent story-line would have earned The Heartbreak Girl that final "A."
