You're not going to believe this out there in radio land, but we've got another station with a ratings problem! And you'll never guess what happens? But don't let me spoil the surprise for you.
In what's becoming a venue as overworked as the psycho slasher in the goalie mask, the radio/TV sex ploy is beginning to suck up an awful lot of call letters. Only this time Hot Rocks has succeeded where its forebears have failed. It has reached the definitive low. Hopefully, the creative spirit can move on and leave other subjects to pick on. Then and only then can we commit stations like WLOV, the fictional love nest in this stinker to the great AM-FM spectrum in the sky.
You would have expected much more. With a fairly decent cast headed by Nina Hartley, whose megawatt beepers couldn't save this bomb, Rocks should have been a cinch to pull its station and this plot out of its ratings morass. Instead all we get is more ass. Hartley, as Erica the program director, displays a bright, vivacious wit that leads you to believe this story is going somewhere. Well, it does for the first three minutes, then Hartley and company spend the remaining 77 hunched over a microphone, desk, bed, car hood, living room couch, et. al., getting it from whomever else is not on the receiving end. If your passions are tuned to straight sex flicks on your dial, then this might suffice. But I seriously doubt it.
