This re- release of a classic film is definitely for couples who want to be entertained as well as aroused. Made before the term "couples films" was chic (the box says 1986, but the tape says 1980), Charli combines nice production values, morals, and straightforward believable sex into a presentation that makes us take a long look at the notions of love, marriage and faithfulness.
Eric Edwards and Jesie St. James are a riot-so-happily married couple. After six years of being together, they find themselves sexually stagnant and emotionally searching for the reasons why. These two want to be together, but everyday distractions (work, other people, etc.) keep them from noticing each Other. Even when James buys Edwards an X-rated cassette and sexy underwear to try and seduce him, his mind is elsewhere and she runs off crying, unfulfilled. But instead of turning to other people for sexual fulfillment, they resist temptation and work out their problems.
The sex is pretty standard, and can be imagined happening in anyone's bedroom. The best scenes are the fantasies Edwards and James play out in their minds (just like in real life), especially Edwards' dreams of a brunette beauty with great tan lines, and his office affair with his seductive secretary. And gym instructor Annette Haven has a hot scene with body builder Randy West on a machine that proves Nautilus didn't think of everything when they made their equipment.
Plenty of locations, outdoor shots and scene changes give this the fee! of a major motion picture. Producer/director Godfrey (Insatiable) Daniels gets strong performances from everyone, and along with the well-written story and acceptable sex gives us a film that is definitely worth seeing.
