Women-behind-bar flicks have long been a mainstay in the realm of T&A teasers. But here, Chuck Vincent's Platinum Pictures presents somewhat different — and definitelyentertaining—look at a prison whose inmates like being restrained. Playpen is the offbeat tale of a prison where good behavior is frowned upon, and "bad" girls are rewarded and admired. Excellent production qualities, attention to mood and setting, and excellent performances by the entire cast guarantee VCA Pictures a sure-fire top seller/renter. The sex, while maybe not as strong as some of VGA's other films, comes off quite well (particularly the fantasy sequences), making the combination a perfect picture for couples.

Leslie Winston heads a women's reformatory, where life is such a piece of cake inmates like Barbara Dare actually confess to crimes they didn't commit in order to be locked up. But Winston's orgiastic philosophy disappears when Robert Bullock shows up as a screaming, demanding warden who demands productivity rather than promiscuity. Even a rare tongue lashing from Cassandra Leigh is not enough to sway the tyrant. But despite the wardens' rules, our ladies find ways to arouse and excite each other (and get even in the end). Dare gives the executioner a ride for his money, and Sheri St. Clair uses her imagination in a scorching fantasy tryst with attorney Jerry Butler. The southern slave dream sequence— with belle Tamara Longley subduing and seducing white slave Bullock—is also hot. And mad scientist inmate Siobhan Hunter's (a good performance) "perfect man" (Michael Knight) really has his hands full when five inmates jump his recently jump-started bones. All in all, a very good feature film.
