What is it about fairy tales that make them such ripe subjects for adult parodies? Their universal popularity? The ironic juxtaposition of innocence and sexuality? The public domain plot? Whatever the reason, writer/director Paul Thomas, who had a big hit with last year's Beauty and the Beast, scores again with Sleeping Beauty Aroused, a sexy romp that everyone should stay awake for.
While in the original fable it's a prick from a spindle that puts the beautiful princess in a 100-year catnap and a kiss on the lips that restores her, in this version princess Hyapatia Lee falls under the spell of witch Tory Wells, thanks to a kiss on a different part of her body, and the prick that awakens her, is attached to dashing prince Robert Bullock, replete with top hat and tails. It's no wonder poor Lee is so horny, though, coming from a pair of raunchy royals like king Randy West (whose tryst with Wells starts the feature off to a sizzling pace) and queen Ona Zee (who gives castle crier Tom Byron something to cry about).
Thomas again deftly blends some well-choreographed sex scenes with a slapstick sense of humor, and brings the best out of his cast. It's remarkable to think that Wells has been in the business for such a short time, so at east does she seem in front of the camera, and Lee adds just the right combination of naivete and lustfulness. There's even a cameo appearance by hubby Bud Lee as a castle guard nearly seduced out of his doublet by the princess. Sleeping Beauty Aroused is a funny and hot "bedtime story" that will have viewers living happily ever after. Great packaging features Hyapatia.
