When a sequel of a successful featureis considered, two courses of action are possible. The first is to take popular characters established during the first film and offer an continuance of their adventures. The second option is to simply rehash the same formula which worked so well last time. This latter choice seems to be the one preferred by the makers of Amanda By Night II. Despite being a bit predictable, it is still entertaining and often quite erotic.
The plot basically follows the story of a prostitute who witnesses a man who picks up, and later kills, her roommate. The hooker, played by the eye-pleasing Krista Lane, is portrayed rather realistically. She's very good at what she does, but on rare occasions lets her fear and vulnerability show through. Investigating the murder case is a dedicated, sensitive police lieutenant played by Robert Bullock who actually gets the chance to prove his acting rather than just his athletic skills in this feature. In fact, the acting throughout is, like the overall production qualities, superior.
Rounding out the rest of the main characters is Billy Dee as a brutal small-time club owner, Herschel Savage as an upscale pimp and Nina Hartley as an undercover cop. Both the good guys and the bad guys are convinced they can show the scared working girl her best interests lie in siding with those who can really help her. The question is, does she want help moving into the better circles where the tricks bring really big bucks, or does she want help getting out of the business and bringing her roommate's killer to justice?
The sexual action is generally hot and in ample supply. Particularly outstanding are the scenes with Krista Lane and Mike Horner, and Herschel Savage and Nina Hartley (who gives the best body massages in town!). All in all, it's kind of like watching a cop show on TV, and for once they really understand the meaning of "action which knocks you off your feet" (and onto your bed!)
