As the song goes, "Everything old is new again." So now we have the home video release of the dated Illusions Of Love. There are many things which age well; Motown songs, George Burns and Mickey Mouse to name but a few, but unfortunately most things show their age and faults all too well. Such is the case with this movie.

For example, there's one scene where Jamie Gillis gets together with a local working girl at the hotel where he's gone to drown his sorrows in cheap vodka and 9mm cartridges. He hops on top for a bit of meaningful tummy contact as she raises her long shapely legs in the air. On those legs she wears knee-high platform shoes high enough to make Gary Coleman eligible to play in the NBA. As they consummate their $20 business arrangement (now there's something out of the good old days many men miss today) the background music drones on endlessly neo-psychedelic style.

I've already given away the plot by mentioning the hotel, vodka and gun. Did I say he's gone there because of a woman? It seems his lady love, played by Iris Flouret, is untrue to him (or at least he is convinced of her infidelity.) As he takes long walks and longer drinks he sees in his mind's eye her many erotic indiscretions. However, towards the end we see only concern and confusion from her regarding the continuing mental deterioration of her man. The sexual vacation is pretty typical, but for those who are interested in sex film history, it's worth a look.
