Using phone sex as a backdrop, Call me is an unusual, erotic and slightly film noirish little thriller that sneaks up on your gonads, despite a dumb, clinched ending. The gorgeous Patricia Charbonneau stars as a writer who receives an obscene phone call that gets her to masturbate (quite an erotic moment). Thinking it’s her boyfriend, she meets the caller, but ends up witnessing a bizarre murder. The strange phone calls ensue, with mistaken identity and dirty talk developments that jettison the plot. The ending stinks, but some finely placed nudity highlights the mystery, making the film’s dark moments more heated. It’s a pretty good home video experience, with character actress Patti D’Arbanville also turning in a nice performance. Meanwhile, I’d like to see more of Patricia Charbonneau in these erotic-type thrillers.
