Hospitals, nurses and doctors have been entertainment staples for years, both in and out of the adult industry. From Deep Throat through Candy Stripers and beyond, the setting of lovely nurses, willing patients and lusty M.D.s has been a natural plot device. So it seems natural for writers John Leslie and porn historian Jim Holliday to use the tried-and-true to mark Leslie's directorial debut.

Leslie is the sole doctor on duty during the nightshift. He is tired and would rather be a harmonica player than a doctor. Silvera is a detective who'd rather be a doctor. He's trying to track down the missing nurse uniforms.

Which brings us to the Nightshift Nurses. These five nubile Nightingales seem to be the only working people with everything upstairs. The nurses seem to be very caring, administering to the doctors, the patients, even each other. Keisha gives some physical therapy to Detso Ritter (Duvall), the world famous "Man Who Wrestles With Himself."

My favorite scene has Sister Isobel (Hunter) ministering to patient North. Leslie makes it a threesome and dons a condom while Hunter is the eager center for a double-penetration. More than sex is captured here. Mood and tone shade the scene and make it vibrant.

Technically, there are a couple problems. Medium shots almost always seem filtered and hazy, and the editing is somewhat loose and inconsistent. But the soundtrack and music are exceptional, and the few and Spartan sets seemed to work without being too busy and obtrusive.

All in all, Nightshift Nurses is a delightful effort. Now that John Leslie is no longer a directorial virgin, I look forward to seeing more of his work from behind the lens.
