This classic video takes place both in the present and in the 19th century during the time of the Lewis and Clark expedition to what is now Oregon and Washington. A young back-packer (Lupin) is hiking through the woods on his way to join a church (!) group. He gets distracted first by fantasies of gay sex, then by voyeurism and finally by the real thing. His mentor (Big Ed) relates the love story of Lewis (Stockwell) and a young Indian brave (Rock).
The plot is well-developed and convincing, the acting is far above average, the technical quality is excellent and the direction shapes all the diverse elements into a convincing whole. The flashback love story is like a hardcore retelling of the softcore classic Song Of The Loon and deserves to be taken seriously. The project was ambitious, and for the most part it succeeds admirably. A must in every collection.
