When he first emerged on the adult video scene, Jon Dough was just another stiff in the morgue when it came to displaying visible signs of life on the TV monitor.

But, brother, look at him now. Dough with Night and Day (also check out Endangered, reviewed this month) shows what an accomplished and excellent actor he's become. It's a great script and Dough is perfectly cast in the role of a "washed-up has-been" director (his last $40 million epic grossed $3 mil at the boxoffice) who's required to adjust his principles in order to survive in the harsh climes of current Hollywood.

Thinking he'll be doing an "art" film, Dough is snookered by producer Deidre Holland into shooting a porn movie, but, nonetheless, he approaches the project in the only way he knows how—professionally and artistically. Only problem is, Dough turns in a "beautiful film" and Holland goes ballistic because she can't sell it to her distributors and threatens to sue him. A barrel of laughs, huh? Actually, Night and Day is just that. It's dry, acerbic and very funny, and Dough vocalizes the angst I'm sure that is quite common to many of the directors in the adult film business who take their work seriously.

Sexually, Night and Day shows no discernible weak links in the chain. You'd think by now that the Dough-Holland team would grow wearisome when the fact is the screen chemistry between these two is only getting better. They have their obligatory scene, which is as good as anything they've done, while Deidre gets to muff dive Flame with gusto in their lesbian scene. And, while, I'm at it, let me comment on the re-emergence of Heather Hart who looks better than ever and seems to be the fulcrum of many a great sex scene these days. She is, and her wares are aptly displayed in a pairing with Cal Jammer that gives you something to write home about.
