Reviews

Western Visuals and director Michael Ninn spared no expense on their first foray into film on the WV Gold label. The viewer's eye is ravished by a succession of lush images, with sex both steamy and dreamy seamlessly integrated. Ninn's influences include, obviously, Andrew Blake, but one can see (no kidding) Brunuel, and Terry Gilliam's Brazil, too. The entire package is immeasurably enhanced by a sensational score, with Dino Ninn a cinch nomination for Best Music. Kudos also to superb editing by Steven Katz, and to writer-director Ninn for realizing this wild trip.

The "Black Orchid" of the title is a book which evokes strange sexual fantasies in its readers. They enter each other's fantasies, and enigmatic figures like Jonathan Morgan's Blade, author Steve Drake, Ona Zee, Lacy Rose, Sunset Thomas, and Veronica Hart seem to be both part of the dreamscape and the reality. Though this may sound like many other blue-the-line themes, there is a jarring dislocation, as one figure replaces another, that intensifies the entire experience. Though water, fog, and diaphanous curtains form a motif, the view of the sex is uncompromising. In particular, Ninn showcases women in ways we haven't seen them before, giving star quality to Lacy Rose, Kimberly Kupps, and Sunset Thomas.

While the film is sex and sexual imagery virtually nonstop, certain scenes must be mentioned. Kimberly Kupps, clad in leather halter and chains festooning her awesome chest, swallows Cal Jammer's cock as Sunset Thomas fingers her, and then Cal drills her doggie-style until he cums everywhere. Lacy Rose, also in leather and wearing Ray-Bans, poses on an outdoor staircase with Kovacs chair and waterfall, and engages Morgan in a bone-shattering coupling that ends with a facial on her shades, a la House of Dreams. Sunset Thomas continues a march toward superstardom with a stunning pair of scenes: a languid, steamy shower scene with hubby Zack, and a fierce pairing with Steve Drake. Ona Zee and Arianna impress, too. Stylish packaging, with a compelling shot of Arianna on the box will draw attention. Fans of Blake will love Ninn, and he will develop his own following with films like Black Orchid.
