Too few adult features come out that click from start to finish. Stairway to Paradise is a fine example of one that has virtually everything going for it. Aimed at those who enjoy an unusual story line coupled with high production standards, it has a finely tuned dialog rarely heard in sexvids.
Nina Hartley is not dead. She is not in limbo, heaven, purgatory or hell, either, but she is definitely on a new plane of existence ruled by an evasive individual called “Rainwater” (Randy Spears). The answers to her many questions can best be answered by having a private session with “Morning Star,” played by porn legend Kay Parker.
After drinking a potion, Hartley is given a view of her past lives – a 300 year cycle of misfortune. She sees herself in 1692, as an imprisoned free spirit during the Salem Witchcraft trials. In 1878 she surfaces as Jesse James and in 1967 she becomes a flower child under the direction of an oversexed guru.
By seeing her past lives, she will be better able to understand herself and will be able to climb to a higher rung of existence.
First time director Sharon Kane does a superb job of establishing a lonely, eerie sensation through the use of darkened sets and appropriate props. The acting and sex is top-notch particularly with Lee Caroll’s portrayal of foul-mouthed saloon girl standing out. Definitely a tape worth having!
