Viewers who crave the Night Trips/Hidden Obsessions pretty perfume ad style erotic epic might love this endeavor. Large amounts of money (reportedly over $120,000) have been poured into this splashy, beautifully-crafted romantic epic —and it shows in a lush, rich, sensual product. Slick, quick editing combined with feature-worthy music are the real stars here, although the cast (including an appearance by Angela Baron) is extremely attractive, both dressed in costumes of various periods, and undressed. Director Christian and all others involved have created a grand, sweeping sex saga of which they should be proud.
The love story is timeless and simple —but certainly not the film's strongest point. With jumps back and forth between New Guinea in 1692, war-torn 1914 Europe and present day Los Angeles, the tale is sometimes difficult to follow. However, the images are captivating and the camerawork, often stunning. Sarah Jane Hamilton and Gerald Pike play the amorous lead couple. At her urging, they decide to dabble in black magic, courtesy of Lady Paree, so they can be together for eternity. Of course, that's not exactly what happens, and Pike spends most of his time trying to relocate his ladylove.
Hamilton's great-grand-daughter (also played by Hamilton) is haunted by odd dreams which reflect past events, including wounded soldier Tony Tedeschi's highly-flammable (and slightly incongruous) grapple with Army nurse Debi Diamond. I mean, did women in 1914 really throw such wild fucks, complete with drooling canteen water over a private's privates? However, it's so hot and nicely photographed, this non sequitur doesn't really matter.
Indeed, practically everyone in the cast is someone else from Hamilton and Pike's past, including Diamond and luscious wenches Celeste and Serenity, who share a lucky lad in a threeway. Voodoo princess Paree is mistress to some of the most stylized and fiery encounters of the lot, insatiable, painted, dripping white fluid as well as blood. She virtually devours everyone she comes in contact with. When Hamilton and Pike are finally reunited near the movie's bittersweet ending, their tryst combines heat as well as passion and definitely doesn't disappoint.
Not for hardcore "raincoaters," but intended more for those who prefer their schtupps with style. Fine couples fare. Plenty of tease, wet bodies (dripping water is a recurring theme) and stroking to please even the pickiest of pornographers. An excess of looped footage and repeated lines does mar the finished product slightly, but on the whole, Immortal Desire is a classy, esthetically pleasing piece of erotica, with a terrific marketing campaign. Additional cast: Dyanna Lauren, Sasha Savage, Brad Armstrong, Cole Steel.
