There's a lot more missing than just a piece in this sequel. Before we even discuss the sexual shortcomings, let's just say a history lesson may be required for the European makers of this strange take on WWI femme fatale Mata Hari. For in this admittedly lavish hardcore telling of the famous spy legend, anachronisms abound. Just when, and where, is this story taking place? Is Mata good, or evil? Viewers will never figure it out in this exposition-heavy film, partly because no bridge has been provided from Part 1.
Now, how about the sex in this postmodern Mata? Other than a good opening anal tango between Kelly Trump and Valentino, it's a sad state of affairs. One number just peters out because of wood problems, while another repeats the same shots in sequence. Viewers might anticipate a final orgy scene; instead, four women dance the Charleston to polka music!
If you want to see a sexy Mata Hari, rent the Greta Garbo classic.
