Reviews

One of the most visually complex adult features in recent memory makes a superb transition to DVD.

Dazzling cinematography, exotic locations, and a thrilling soundtrack all create the perfect mood for this Indiana Jones-style adventure. Despite a laughable attempt at acting by Ashton Moore, the rest of the cast does a nice job getting into their characters, especially Asia Carrera and James Bonn.

Digital surround sound is a key feature that makes this disc stand out from other adult DVDs.

Visions. Visions are what  Search for the Snow Leopard is all about. Honey-dipped visions of naturalistic cinematography... curvy, feline visions of lovely flesh... and erotic, Jungian visions which Asia Carrera experiences in a waking dream-state of consciousness. Snow Leopard is all that and more. Far and away the best feature of the year (so far), the film sustains an air of adventure and eroticism rarely captured in hardcore entertainment.

Asia, the recipient of a hefty grant to track down the rare cat, finds herself at odds with rival naturalist James Bonn. Unlike the carefree Bonn, Asia's carrying more than just hiking gear as baggage. Her father, Mark Davis, died in an unsuccessful attempt to snare the leopard. (He did, however, snare Stephanie Swift in a tasty airplane hangar tryst.)

Along for the ride is Asia's partner Ashton Moore, a cultural expert who is able to explain why Asia is constantly finding herself within the grip of arousing visions. (Let is suffice to say that a mystical force is at work and leave it at that. The visions are a gimmicky way to segue into a few unnecessary sex scenes -- mostly orgies, hetero and lesbian -- which, while hot, are also pretty dispensable.)

Before Asia takes off for her cross-continental trip, there's time to give her ungrateful boyfriend Brick Majors some oral action under the stars. An African waterfall affords Asia the change to get wet 'n' wild with a fabulous tease and masturbation solo, rivaling the best of any Playboy-shot video. In fact, Asia has probably never been more enticing, and two fur-bumping sessions with rival-cum-lover Bonn don'tdampen the heat a bit. Their final scene, one of many beautiful exterior encounters, is definitely worthy of a pre-nom. En route, a horny Sherpa (imagine how that looks on Nick Danger's resume) shows Moore the beastlier side of the wild bush. They don't even have to leave his pup tent.

Practically a requirement in a film of this nature is the "ruthless Poacher." Alec Metro supplies the requisite menace, and also manages to bag a few felines along the way. We'd like to say more on this topic, but it would definitely spoil the fun. Just keep in mind that there's a reason we're suggesting Emotion Arts Digital receive a major nod for visual FX. And while we're on the topic: Saint provides a terrific score, Phillip O'Toole edits with a masterful eye, John English photographs like Vilmos Zsigmond. Asia does a subtle turn in the lead role, and James Avalon pulls the whole thing off like a minor miracle. Being an Adam & Eve vehicle, Snow Leopard doesn't travel the nasty road. Pop shots land almost discreetly on breasts, buttocks and bellies, but faces are out. Know what? It doesn't matter. It's James Avalon's vision, and that's good enough for us.
