This is a great video. Not necessarily a great sex video, but a great video. David Stanley sets a stage with black shadows. At a desk, a goateed authority figure asks people about their lives, particularly involving a character named "Dale," who has done something pretty bad.
Dale has been as much a victim as a sinner: conceived during a post-Halloween party tryst; injured as a child, stopping him from following a music career; passively victimized by girlfriends and buddies alike. He finally snaps and starts killing people, and finally himself - like all the other scenes in this video, shown in comfortable flashback, the interrogator and the interrogatees the only things real now, facing each other in a pool of light surrounded by inky blackness - and then facing the outcome of his actions.
The stylized action deserves to be in a live-TV kinescope from the Golden Age of Television. Stanley uses budget limitations to his advantage, making the black backgrounds work as a positive thing, and setting up the scenes so that by the end, the simple act of offering somebody a cigarette is a terrifying gesture. (If Stanley had been doing this in the '50s, we'd be talking about him now in the same breath as Rod Serling and Paddy Chayefsky. He's that good.) Sex scenes number five.
Pre-noms to Frank Bukkwyd as "the Black Suit" and Eric Masterson as Dale; and direction and screenplay to Stanley.
