Where were you when the great quake of 1989 hit the Bay Area? Having dinner? Watching the World Series pre-game? Calling your bookie? In the bathroom? Well, Earthquake Girls exists on the premise that mostly everyone was having sex during that ghastly earthquake, and it's sure more fun than where I was.
Lots of actual earthquake damage footage, fires, etc., some of it shot from a helicopter, give this feature a feel for realism. It's a nice editing job. Most of the sex scenes create heat, though the juxtaposition of three erotic segments distracts from their collective impact. Noteworthy is the Randy Spears/Sabrina Dawn scene as Sabrina looks more and more like a future erotic starlet. Also, Mia Powers and Randy West ignite before he settles in to watch the World Series quake.
Though some dubbing with Nina Hartley's voice (as the reporter covering the damage all over San Francisco) really doesn't work, Earthquake Girls is an ambitious and somewhat erotic work, with a great box cover shot, that deserves your attention.
