It's obvious Sunshine tried like hell to make 4-Eyed Whores a special release: This anal-intensive wall-to-waller is available only as a DVD, and a dual-layered DVD at that, and features an attractive European cast and true quad-angle coverage through 95 percent of the disc.  It also offers auto-start and auto-repeat functions.  The interesting thing about these two features is that each time the disc repeats, at the start of playback, it switches automatically tot he next angle on the menu; in other words, if the disc plays through the first time on angle one, it will go to angle two the next time through, then to angle three, and so on, unless the viewer intervenes with his or her own selections.

Though the combined running time of each of the disc's four sex scenes is only about 45 minutes, viewed the angle at a time and in its entirety, the total running time of the disc comes in at just over three hours.  Chapter stops and a photo gallery round out the extras on the disc.

Unfortunately, one of the strengths of this release -- the quad-angles -- is also its greatest weakness.  Even the best mainstream DPs are often challenged to light a two- or three-camera shoot.  The lighting here, which was set up for four cameras, results in a picture that, while bright and generally free of pixelation or artifacting, is quite dull and flat.  Long, gray shadows play across the walls and ceiling like a hardcore parody of Dracula or Frankenstein done with shadow puppets.  Some of the angles are wasted, with the camera placed too distant from the action, or at an angle where the hardcore is all but obscured.  There are moments, too, where the camera operator fails to follow the performers as they shift positions or move across the set.  Sloppy.

As noted, there are some very good things about this disc; Sunshine has done a lot to improve their product since their initial wave of releases last summer.  With a little more time and experience, they should do well in the adult DVD market.
