Very beautiful, softcore, widescreen movie admits and enjoys the sensual visual aspects of the Eastern discipline. Handsome, genial Aaron Star gathers four healthy young students in a softly-lit loft for introduction to yoga. Part 1 covers the bare essentials of coordinating breathing with basic poses. It's a very American yoga, with no mention of religion. Students explain their interest: "I like being naked." "To get more in touch with my body." "A physical and mental thing." They and Star laugh when he asks, "Are you guys ready to get naked?" The atmosphere is no more and no less sexual than in a locker room. As Star guides his students through the "virgin" exercises, the camera crawls over bodies, lingering no more on genitalia than any other part. When knee-hugging reveals assholes, nothing is made of it. If Star must touch a body to enforce a pose, he does. Unobtrusive music supports a feeling of seriousness and dignity.
