The "fourth wall" is meant to keep the actors and the audience separate. In this case, we really need that wall to save us from smart-ass Cameron Cruise's rather insipid commentary - though, in his defense, it does serve to move the story along.
Like his name implies, Cruise decides to do just that and explore his neighborhood and nearby campgrounds, where he finds plenty of uninspired action.
