Braun's 'Justice League' Gets AVN Glory as Mainstream Film Panned

LOS ANGELES—DC Films' Zack Snyder-directed Justice League hits theaters today, but according to RottenTomatoes.com, critics are less than enthralled. With a headline boldly announcing "Justice League is a Disappointment," the 'Tomatometer' critical aggregate gives the $300 million production a dismal 39 percent "rotten" rating. Luckily for followers of the DC Extended Universe and high-quality adult entertainment, seven-consecutive-time AVN Best Parody winner Axel Braun and Wicked Comix are enjoying nothing but glowing accolades and massive sales for Justice League XXX: An Axel Braun Parody, much like they did last year with Suicide Squad XXX: An Axel Braun Parody, which ended up becoming not only a huge commercial success, but also the most awarded adult movie of 2016, taking home nine AVN trophies, including Movie of the Year.

In the case of Justice League XXX, Braun and company racked up 13 AVN nominations this time around, revealed Thursday night as part of the fourth annual AVN Awards Nomination Party.

“I am seriously beside myself with joy!” said Braun, who also got nominated for Director of the Year, the award that he's already won for a record four consecutive times. “This was not only the most complex production of my 28-year career, but also my favorite movie, so seeing it recognized by AVN is totally awesome! It was really quite a wild ride, and I cannot thank my cast and crew enough for giving their absolute best under the most difficult circumstances! I could literally write a book on the tribulations that we encountered during this four month-long shoot ... and come to think of it maybe I will. Meanwhile, I’m just gonna enjoy this magic moment and bask in the glory of all the love, success and accolades that Justice League XXX is receiving!"

Among the nominations Justice League XXX picked up Thursday night—representing more than half of the 21 total Braun claimed—were Best Director - Feature and Best Parody, while Romi Rain's performance as Wonder Woman received a well-deserved Best Actress nom.

“I am absolutely ecstatic with the amount of love and attention that Justice League XXX has gotten!” said a beaming Rain. “Everybody worked so hard to make the movie as incredible as it is, and I truly feel this is the best work of my career thus far, thanks to Axel who believed in me and gave a dream role and an amazing script. Being nominated for Best Actress is a tremendous honor that I don’t take lightly, I love what I do and I’ve worked hard at it, and I’m so proud and grateful to be recognized for this incredible movie!"

Other acting nominations included a Best Supporting Actor nod to Tyler Nixon for his spirited performance as The Flash. And, in recognition of what was by far the most talked-about adult casting stroke of the year, Charlotte Stokely received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her fierce portrayal of the first openly lesbian superhero in the DCU, Batwoman. Rain and Nixon were also nominated for Best Group Sex Scene, a powerful four-way which also included Xander Corvus and Giovanni Francesco.

The movie's production values and publicity outreach were recognized with a multitude of additional nominations, including Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Makeup, Best Marketing Campaign - Individual Project, Best Soundtrack and Best Special Effects.

The production's safe-for-work trailer, which has earned well over 600,000 views since its debut, may be viewed here.
