Since Bram Stoker first put pen to paper, vampires have haunted the literate sexual fantasies of succeeding generations. In this collection of short stories, editor D.L. King—who publishes the review site EroticaRevealed.com—has concocted a potent aphrodisiac that gives depth and sensuality to the term “bloodlust.” Some stories are set in a romantic, richly detailed haze of past times, such as Madeleine Oh’s “Nightlife,” a tale of a female vampire who hunts in Toulouse-Lautrec’s Paris. In others, the undead stalk the contemporary scene, including the male vampire in Evan Mora’s “Takeout or Delivery,” who finds his willing subs on dating websites. The book offers an equitable balance of male and female vamps, providing erotic thrills for both sexes—though usually with a heterosexual bent.
Retailing: The writing is high quality but very accessible. Once a browser bites into the first story—Remittance Girl’s “Midnight at Sheremetyevo”—she’ll be hooked.
