April 4 marked the 9th annual Feminist Porn Awards organized by Toronto sex toy shop Good For Her. Awards were given out for Heartthrob of the Year, Steamiest Romantic Movie, and new category Best Boygasm (among others). Many TROUBLEfilms stars were in attendance at the entertaining and elegant event.
TROUBLEfilms' Trans Grrrls: Revolution Porn Style Now! was awarded Most Tantalizing Trans Film and Lesbian Curves 2: Hard Femme received Hottest Dyke Film from the FPA judges. (The original Lesbian Curves won Hottest Dyke Film at the FPAs last year.)
There was a lot to be excited about this year. Heartthrob of the Year was won by Aussie porn performer Zahra Stardust. Also in the winners circle with an Honorable Mention was producer/performer Tobi Hill-Meyer for her film Doing It Again Vol 1: Playful Awakenings.
The late Carlos Batts was awarded the Indie Icon Award, accepted by his wife April Flores with a speech of love that left the audience without a dry eye. Fans can see why he was considered such an icon with these photos he took for Indie Porn Revolution, or this scene between Courtney and April.
For six years in a row, a release produced by Courtney Trouble has won a Feminist Porn Award, but 2014 marks the first year where two TROUBLEfilms movies took a trophy home. Performers in each film were encouraged to go on stage with performer/director Trouble and were given the mic to offer their own dedications and thanks.
"These movies mean so much to me personally," said Trouble when asked for comment. "I was really happy to share the stage with some of the most amazing women I know. I am grateful and humbled and excited to continue to make groundbreaking work demonstrating the value and desirability of representation".
The 2014 awards were made by East Bay toy company Fucking Sculptures, who also makes Trouble's signature dildo, the Double Trouble.
What's the plan for next year? Well, new release Fuckstyles 2: Dirty Fucks is likely to be one TROUBLEfilms offering that will serve up hot queer content all while getting fans off. And the East Bay Express featured TROUBLEfilms performers on the cover for a piece on east bay porn. It looks like it's going to be a good year for ethical, representative pornography!
