LOS ANGELES—Stormi Maya has reached the crowdfunding goal for her indie feature Hicktown with 10 days remaining, and is now aiming for her stretch goal.
Maya is the writer, producer, and star of Hicktown. Watch the teaser now on YouTube. The Kickstarter minimum goal of $10,000 has been met, covering a skeleton crew and cast, raw production, editing, basic post-production, and digital reward fulfillment.
Maya is now aiming for the stretch goal (or true budget), which will cover hiring a professional crew, securing key locations, covering music, sound design and scoring, film festival submissions, fair wages for cast and crew, high-quality post-production, and expanded distribution. “This is definitely a passion project. It’s also to open up people’s eyes to the realities that Black men are disproportionately accused and incarcerated for crimes they didn’t commit, especially sexual assault, and what it’s like to be biracial and feel like you don’t belong and be isolated," said Maya.
