LOS ANGELES—The adult industry has a very popular content category called "MILFS"—experienced, usually older women who fill a void in many viewers' imaginations. But guess what? The same doesn't hold true for men: There's no "Fathers I'd Like to Fuck" category—and that can be a problem as male talent ages.
Mick Blue turned 40 a few months ago, and while he still delivers stellar scenes, crossing that threshold turned out to be a time of reflection for him—and what came out of that reflection was that Mick wanted to become a racecar driver.
It was actually a dream Mick had long before he became the first man ever to win the AVN Male Performer of the Year trophy three years in a row, but he put that dream on hold as he created a porn empire that includes an incredible collection of awards for performing, directing and acting, marrying Female Performer of the Year Anikka Albrite, establishing the successful studio BAM Visions and much more.
As he began training to race cars he quickly learned that it is a career with a very expensive buy-in. For his immediate goal—18 races over six weekends with the Skip Barber Racing School Championship Series—he needs to raise more than $35,000. A month ago he created a GoFundMe campaign, but now believes he needs to take the more traditional route and search for corporate sponsors.
“I have a dream, but it goes deeper than that,” Mick said. “It’s about taking the battle to the young guys and showing everybody it's possible. The only way to do that is if you are working in a team. Sponsors can be part of a team.
“I really want to show the rest of the world that even if you are 40 years young you can still become a successful race car driver with the right dedication and drive. I want to be a role model for all those out there who are 40-plus and give them hope that it's never too late to do what you are passionate about.”
Mick realizes that many will see a successful man and wonder why he doesn’t pay for it himself, but the $35,000 he seeks could easily become twice that much. This amount covers only the fee that allows him to drive. Racing is a very expensive sport and only those with corporate sponsors and or a team succeed.
And it's not as if adult studios haven't sponsored race car drivers before. The best known ones are Adam & Eve and Wicked Pictures, but they're hardly the only ones.
Mick’s long-term goal is to be racing in Indianapolis by 2020, which has been the dream of boys and men alike since the Indy 500 kicked off in 1911. It has hosted legends like A. J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears. Mick wouldn’t be the first Austrian to compete in the race: Austria-born driver Joe Jagersberger competed at the first race in 1911 and Austrian Louis Schwitzer won the first ever race on the track in 1909.
“I’m already on that path with the success I have had with Skip Barber,” he continued. “I have a life-long track record of achieving my goals. My sponsors will have exclusive access to my racing world and the promotional benefits that will come with that. I am extremely focused on racing and very optimistic that I will be able to work with some amazing sponsors.”
