LOS ANGELES—Filmmaker Harry Sparks and Sparks Entertainment have released of The Girls of Cosplay: The Extended Edition, now streaming exclusively at SparksAfterDark.tv.
The new release expands on the original Blu-ray edition with an uncut and uncensored version of the film featuring additional footage not included in the standard Blu-ray. "Representing the most complete version of Part One, the Extended Edition showcases the artistry, craftsmanship, and imagination behind the world of cosplay as originally envisioned," the studio said.
Featuring appearances by Rachael Cavalli, Maya Woulfe, Val Dodds, Alex Coal, Lauren Phillips, Alexis Tae, Marica Hase, and more, The Girls of Cosplay aims to transform anime, fairy tale and pop-culture-inspired heroines into a series of cinematic vignettes. Blending cinematography, elaborate costumes, and performance-driven storytelling, the anthology celebrates the creativity of modern cosplay culture.
In addition to its stylized fantasy sequences, the film also offers behind-the-scenes footage, giving audiences a closer look at the work required to bring elaborate character transformations to life.
"Cosplay is about passion, creativity, and bringing imagination to life. As we assembled the film, we realized the project had grown into something much bigger than we originally envisioned," Harry Sparks said. "There was simply too much great material to fit into one movie. Rather than leave so much footage on the cutting room floor, we decided to expand the project into two separate films. The Extended Edition finally allows audiences to experience Part One as it was originally envisioned, and I'm excited to share this larger vision with fans."
Fans may purchase the standard Blu-ray edition through The Sparks Archive, where they can also find The Girls of Cosplay Companion Photo Book, featuring an expanded collection of cosplay photography inspired by the film.
