LOS ANGELES—GILF star Sally D’Angelo shared comments on her recent run in “The Great Playmate Search” for legacy men’s magazine Playboy and compared the experience to her popularity with AVN viewers and adult entertainment fans.
At 71, D’Angelo entered the Playboy competition “on a dare from her LoyalFans affiliate,” but ultimately was not chosen in the contest.
“Let’s just say I was apparently too hot for Playboy but the perfect temperature for AVN. One wants elegant sophistication, the other wants me bent over a walker screaming profanity—clearly AVN knows their audience better. No shade to Playboy, but AVN’s been my ride-or-die for over a decade,” D’Angelo told AVN.
Entering the adult industry in 2015, at age 60, D’Angelo said that the past decade has only added to her passion for performing in adult scenes.
“Insane is right,” she said. “I’m over here doing the math and realizing I’ve been nominated since flip phones were still a thing. Eleven years feels like AVN looked at me and said, ‘Yeah, this silver-haired hurricane ain’t slowing down.’ I’m humbled, I’m horny, and I’m honestly shocked they still let me in the building.
“The secret? Never act your age and always bring snacks to set. Seriously though, it’s the fans who keep voting and AVN who keeps noticing. I could be put out to pasture tomorrow, and they’d still be like, 'Nah, Sally’s got one more gangbang in her.' That kind of love keeps me young,” D’Angelo revealed.
D’Angelo is currently nominated for a 2026 AVN Award in the Niche/Specialty Performer of the Year category.
She expressed her appreciation for the awards nod, as well as the recognition of fans.
“From the bottom of my very experienced heart: Thank you, AVN, for eleven consecutive years of making this GILF feel like the prom queen of porn,” D’Angelo enthused.
