LOS ANGELES—Emma Hix recently made her second appearance on comedian Tom Segura’s podcast "Your Mom’s House."
In this episode, Hix was invited by the podcast team to play the show’s new co-host, and later executive producer and then "podcast president," anchoring a comedy bit poking fun at Segura’s wife and co-host Christina Pazsitzky.
The fans of "Your Mom’s House" are familiar with Pazsitzky’s scheduled absences from the show after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year, and then undergoing treatment and a double mastectomy.
In August, Hix was flown in from Canada to play a new co-host, whom Segura referred to as "New Christine." After opening the show, Hix bantered with Segura until the real Pazsitzky showed up in pretend shock a few minutes later.
Said Segura, "I feel such a bond already, ever since I met you a few minutes ago. When you walked in, I thought right away ’soulmate’!"
Later on, Hix could be seen in the control room, to the mock dismay of Pazsitzky, especially after Segura promptly promoted her to executive producer.
"It’s a vibe, the place feels lighter. It feels like the sun is shining into the studio," agreed guest Duncan Trussell.
Last week, Hix returned to the show, reprising the role after the 2024 presidential election results were announced.
"We got a message from our president," Segura told his pretend-fuming wife, leading into a video especially shot by Hix, celebrating her new promotion to "president" of the podcast.
Hix’s first act in office: promoting a hilarious segment on "cactus facts."
Hix offered, "After August, it was supposed to be 'one and done,' but they said 'You were so funny—we want you back!' Originally, they just wanted someone who was a younger blonde with big boobs sitting in for Christina, while she recovered from her mastectomy. My friend Webmaster Joe suggested my name to them, but I told them I was in Canada on a family holiday. They said 'No problem, we’ll fly you in!'"
As Hix was ready to fly to Austin, Texas, where "Your Mom’s House" tapes, she realized she hadn’t packed any of her work clothes.
Hix laughed, "I didn’t have any of my Emma wardrobe — I had only sweatpants with me in Canada! So they literally put me in one of Christina’s little black dresses. It was hot! The straps kept slipping down. A nip-slip happened on the podcast, and it was so authentic! My nipple popped out and that was the most comedic part of it because the dress didn’t fit."
Hix added that she was, "Super nervous." She continued, "As soon as I got to their office they were so welcoming to me. They let me get creative and improvise. Tom, Christina, and his staff are very sweet people. I’m so thankful for the opportunity and I so love it when performers are welcomed into mainstream sets."
Hix concluded, "I don’t know how long my tenure as podcast president is supposed to be, but let's hope for four—maybe eight if I do a good job—years of appearances!"
