Daniel Shar's 'Near Sex for Work' Returns to California

LOS ANGELES—ATMLA’s resident non-sex actor Daniel Shar will return to California for two performances of his live solo comedy show, "Near Sex for Work."

After sold out shows in Chicago, Massachusetts, and North Carolina, as well as a sold out run and encore at the 2025 Hollywood Fringe Festival, "Near Sex For Work" will make its Ojai premiere on Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Ojai Underground (616 Pearl St, Ojai, Calif. 93023), before returning to Los Angeles on March 4 at 7:30 p.m. at The Elysian Theater (1944 Riverside Dr, Los Angeles, Calif. 90039). From Shar's years as a virginal dildo salesman to his current post as non-sex actor, "Near Sex For Work" is a 60-minute chonicle of the twists and turns of his résumé.

"Near Sex For Work" received a nomination for Best Comedy & Variety Act at Hollywood Fringe, as well as positive review from Allen Salkin for The Hollywood Reporter, who said, "I laughed so much I almost had an asthma attack… go see it." Furthermore, The Comedy Bureau chose the show as one of 2024’s Best Things, calling it, "One hell of a comedy gold mine."

The show was nominated for Mainstream Venture of the Year at the 2025 AVN Awards, where Shar also received a Best Non-Sex Performance nod for his role in the Adult Time feature Birth. He received another Best Non-Sex Performance nom in 2026 for his work in Vixen’s The Blueprint and appeared in Dorcel's 2026 Grand Reel winner Strip.
