LOS ANGELES—Cherie DeVille reflects on the milestones of her 16-year career in a new interview with the French magazine La Voix du X. She speaks candidly about self-expression, industry realities, and the political battles surrounding free speech.
“Cherie DeVille: In the Porn Industry, We're the Canaries in the Coal Mine of Free Speech” features the veteran performer looking back on the unlikely path that brought her into adult entertainment.
“I have a PhD in physical therapy, and I was happily practicing that profession,” she explained, recalling how a photographer friend encouraged her to try modeling through Model Mayhem. “I immediately jumped at the chance, not because I thought it would become a career, but just for fun… almost like it was something on my bucket list.”
Asked to describe herself, DeVille pointed to the qualities that have defined her career: “Consistent, motivated, conscientious—these are the words that best describe me, and I think they are the keys to my success.”
The interview also explores her advocacy work and concerns about legislation affecting the adult industry. “It’s a Trojan horse for free speech,” she said. “And as always in the porn industry, we're the canaries in the free speech coal mine.”
