Drawing on nearly two decades of experience in studio productions and independent creator platforms, DeVille explains how the business has evolved beyond a single paycheck from a shoot.
DeVille wrote, "Today, performing is still central to what I do (the internet needs its favorite stepmom), but so is managing my brand, content, and relationship with my audience. On-camera work may be the most visible part of the job, but it is no longer the whole business."
She also breaks down studio work, subscriptions, clip sales, live appearances, merchandise, brand partnerships, and other income streams while making the larger point that longevity depends on knowing how to build a business around a career.
DeVille added, "The goal is not to be everywhere. It is to choose parts of the business that work together. Views are flattering. Revenue pays the production bill. Profit keeps the business alive."
The article also looks at the less glamorous work behind independent content creation, from branding and customer service to scheduling, consent discussions, and production planning. DeVille shared, "Modern porn stars are still performers, and I love that part of my work. We are also producers, marketers, editors, stylists, scriptwriters, production managers, and business owners, sometimes all before lunch."
