AVN Media Network has named Harker Jones its editor in chief of gay-adult-industry magazine GAYVN. As EIC, Jones, who has ten years' experience in mainstream and gay publishing, will be responsible for the editorial content and direction of the magazine and website.
Jones received a bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University with majors in technical writing and telecommunications and film, with a minor in literature. He began his post–college career as a technical editor for computer software manuals in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
After a stint in Tucson, Arizona, where he worked for a firm that produced scientific reports on water and soil, he moved to Los Angeles and was quickly snapped up as managing editor of Genre magazine.
A year later, he moved to Out magazine to become its managing editor. At Out, Jones directed the daily production of the magazine, oversaw both the launch and the re-launch of its award-winning website, and managed the art, editorial, and production departments.
"After interviewing a number of candidates for EIC, I was most impressed with Harker Jones' publishing background and Web expertise, and am confident that his vision is a perfect fit for GAYVN's evolution," said Chad Beecher, GAYVN Publisher and AVN VP of Business Relations.
"Harker Jones will be an excellent EIC," said GAYVN Editor Doug Lawrence, who retires this spring. "He has many years in publishing and experience with the gay market, and I am delighted to turn over the reins to him."
