MADRID, Spain—European tech startup Techpump has announced the deployment of an age verification process on its website Cumlouder.com to access its adult content.
Cumlouder will be “the first adult content website in Spain to implement a reliable age verification that ensures the protection of minors and the anonymity of adult users,” a company representative said, using a technology solution based on identity wallets developed by the cybersecurity company Gataca.
The measure complies with the new Digital Services Act (DSA) in Europe, which states that online platforms accessible to minors must implement measures to ensure a high level of privacy, safety, and security for underage users, including age verification.
Currently the only solution that has the approval of the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) to start processing data for age verification, according to Techpump, the solution developed by Gataca “has been selected to address this challenge in the adult sector.”
The technology is based on identity wallets and allows users to verify their age securely without the need to share personal data with the website, not even date of birth.
The Gataca digital identity wallet is a free mobile application that allows users to share information using digital credentials to authenticate credentials to various services and have full control over their data. The user can share credentials in their digital wallet with one click when accessing the platform.
Gataca’s verification system offers privacy for the user by confirming the user is authorized to access the content with the credential, without having access to personal data. Credentials are stored locally on the user's device, under the user's control. Gataca has no visibility into what credentials are stored, how they are used, or how often.
The +18/21 credential shared with Gataca contains no identifying data and is instantly deleted after providing access to the content. This ensures that it is not possible to track the user's online behavior, preserving anonymity.
To obtain an 18+/21+ credentials, users must prove their age of majority only once through the Gataca wallet in a process completely independent of the adult content platform they wish to access.
According to the DSA regulations, age verification must be carried out accurately, using reliable data sources. Gataca’s system processes a scan of the identity document and a selfie, a procedure that takes less than a minute to complete.
Once verification is complete, two credentials are issued—The first certifying 18+/21+ age status and another credential corresponding to the Verified Identity Document that can be reused for future access and on different websites.
With Gataca's digital wallet, users can store and manage a variety of credentials, such as driver's licenses, academic diplomas, health cards, or work credentials.
The European eIDAS regulation, implemented in May 2024, obliges European member states to offer a European Digital Identity Wallet within the next 24 months.
