Nevada Certifies Power Play Studio as an Emerging Small Business
LAS VEGAS—The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development has certified Power Play Studio, LLC as a Tier 1 Local Emerging Small Business. The certification was issued on Sept. 16. Power Play Studio, LLC is the only adult retailer listed among Nevada’s 1,014 certified "Emerging Small Businesses."
The company believes it is also the first the state has certified. Nevada’s Emerging Small Business program, created in 2014, certifies small businesses so they can compete for work with state and local government agencies. Certified companies are listed in a public directory used by state and county purchasing agents.
Power Play Studio is listed under All Other Miscellaneous Retailers.
Federal small-business lending has long sat closed to adult retail. SBA rules make any business earning more than a minimal share of its revenue from products of a prurient sexual nature ineligible for its loan programs—a restriction that applies across the sector regardless of how a company trades.
“Adult retail is a legitimate American industry. It employs people, it pays taxes, it follows the law,” said Elmer Whittaker, founder and managing director of Power Play Studio, LLC.
Certification as a Local Emerging Small Business confirms that a company meets the state’s size and locality standards. It is not an endorsement of a company’s products. Power Play Studio, LLC is a Nevada limited liability company selling BDSM, fetish, and leather gear, apparel, clubwear, lingerie, and sex toys online at power-play-studio.com.
Power Play is a member of the Free Speech Coalition, the Sexual Wellness Professional Alliance, the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, and other chambers of commerce.
