MUNICH, Germany—To celebrate International Kissing Day on July 6, sexual wellness platform Beducated is reminding couples to kiss more—"especially if they feel like their relationship is lacking some much-needed ‘oomph,’” a brand representative said.
"Kissing is the most underrated relationship tool," said Mariah Freya, sex education expert and co-founder of Beducated. "Couples obsess over date nights, whether they’re having ‘enough’ sex, and communication techniques, but they're sleeping on the one thing that actually predicts whether they'll stay happy together."
Research has found how often couples kiss to be a strong indicator of their overall relationship satisfaction and sexual happiness, according to Beducated. But with daily stresses like work, family life, and chores, Freya said, “too many of us are now settling for quick pecks on the lips on our way out for the day. That’s a lot of precious intimacy time we’re missing out on.”
"Something magical happens when we stop going about kissing in a mechanical way and really focus on it, even if it’s for a few seconds more,” Freya added. “That's when your brain shifts from 'greeting mode' to 'connection mode.' Your partner literally becomes more attractive to you."
Couples who “smooch” more also reported less conflict, increased desire for intimacy, and better emotional connection, according to Beducated.
"Kissing shouldn't be something you do on autopilot," said Freya. "When you get it right, couples tell me it's the highlight of their day. That's when you know you've tapped into something powerful."
